That b***** bridge!

We didn't get to move yesterday after all. Charlotte's poorly eye resulted in a hastily arranged appointment at the Wigan, Wrightington and Leigh eye unit to see (sic) a consultant. So it was chauffeur duty for me and child minding/school run for Elaine. With the bridge only operating for an hour a day (this has been going on for 2 months now) we were scuppered.
So today we decided on a walk before the bridge opened at 2pm, and we weren't alone

Charlotte's mob met us and off we went, heading for Pennington Flash. Now I have walked all around this area for years and have seen plenty of mess and pollution at times. Nothing, however, like this

and all in the name of charity too. This disgusting mess, I'm reliably informed, is the residue of a recent Colour Run in aid of the NSPCC no less. Apparently, the only way you can encourage people to run for charity is to give them free licence to destroy the countryside. Well, the NSPCC have seen their last penny from me I can tell you.
Undeterred, we pressed on and completed a circuit walking two and a half miles. We enjoyed the views and the exercise and the kids (and Frank the pug) didn't miss a puddle or muddy hole all the way around.

We made it back in time to join the queue at the bridge

then tied up at the Flash for the night.
